It had been a few days since Wyatt had kissed McKenna. They’d fallen into a rhythm of McKenna getting Kaiti after school, the two of them doing something together, then the three of them having dinner at his house in the evenings. Afterward, they would play games with Kaiti or watch Disney movies and then when Kaiti went to bed, she and Wyatt would curl up together on the sofa and talk about their day, watch television, or kiss until her lips were raw. All of which McKenna was enjoying thoroughly.

Enjoying it a little too much, if she were honest with herself. It would all too easy to fall, and fall hard, for Wyatt Emmerson. Of course she was attracted to the man, and couldn’t get enough of him, but she had never been a long-term thinker. Long-term meant heartache. Long-term meant potential loss.

She glanced in the rearview mirror at Kaiti. Already done with filling in McKenna about her day, she sat quietly looking out the window as they drove toward Noelle’s dance studio.

But now, now she saw the reality of having Kaiti in her life. Not only could she fall for Wyatt, but the little girl had found a place in McKenna’s heart pretty fast.

She pulled her Jeep into a parking spot and got Kaiti out of her car seat. She grabbed McKenna’s hand and they made their way inside. McKenna could hear music playing as she opened the door and she and Kaiti entered. Noelle was up front in black yoga pants and a long-sleeved top that accentuated her long, lithe form. The woman absolutely did not look like she’d had a child a few months ago.

Her blond hair was pulled into a bun and her arms and legs moved as she said ballet positions to a group of girls in rows before her. Each one mirrored her movements, all of them in sync. The group was young teens who looked as if they had been studying ballet for a while. The ease in their movements was close to Noelle’s, but it was clear Noelle was a professional, each of her positions flawless.

McKenna and Kaiti sat in chairs that lined the back wall of the room. The front was covered
